Engaging the Public in our meetings

Most scientific meetings come to a community, enjoy the local culture, have their meeting and then depart, with local residents hardly aware of what has happened. Since we are a regional division of a large multi-national and highly respected poly-scientific organization, we are, in principle, in a unique position to use our community role to increase the grass-roots regional and local impact of science.  As a science-advocacy organization-- especially one that is regionally focused -- we are perhaps in a unique position to instead have real and lasting local impact. As described in section B below, the effort to do so has meant identifying science related issues of explicit local importance and then engaging individuals and local organizations with expertise and experience in those issues.

We are therefore very appreciative of the Local organizations who participating in AAASPD 2019
