Engaging the Public

As we are an explicitly regional division of AAAS, a large multi-national and highly respected poly-scientific organization, we are in a unique position to use our local grass-roots foundation to increase regional and local impact.   Many scientific meetings come to a community, enjoy the local culture, have their meeting and then depart with few within that community even aware that they were there. As a science advocacy organization and especially as one that moves its annual meeting to a different community each year, we are in the unique position to instead, have real and lasting local impact. In order to do so, we explicitly work with local organizations and individuals in our meeting locations to identify science-related issues of local importance and then seek to combine these local interests and voices with those of scientists from around the Pacific Region and the world with relevant expertise.
